Description
The Dräger Tube – Sulfur Dioxide 0.5/a (Part No. 6728491) is a short-term, color-imetric detector tube designed to measure concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) in air. It is part of the field-portable detection system from Dräger, intended for rapid on-site spot measurements.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Field-ready detection: Enables quick detection of sulfur dioxide in ambient air without complex instrumentation.
-
Sensitive measuring range: Standard measuring range covers roughly 0.5 to ~25 ppm SO₂ (depending on scale) for the 0.5/a tube.
-
Ease of use: The tube is a sealed glass ampoule filled with a reagent that reacts with SO₂; used with a pump (such as the Dräger Accuro) to draw a calibrated air volume.
-
Clear visual read-out: On exposure to the target gas the reagent changes colour along the marked scale, allowing a direct reading of concentration.
-
Multiple tests per box: Supplied in boxes of 10 tubes (10 tests) — enabling multiple field checks or monitoring points.
-
Proven reliability: As part of Dräger’s “Short-Term Tubes” series, recognised globally in industrial hygiene and safety monitoring contexts.
Technical Specifications
- Measured Component: Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂)
- Standard Measuring Range: ~0.5 to ~5 ppm (for 0.5/a) and extends up to ~25 ppm on the same tube scale.
- Number of Tests per Box: 10 tubes / 10 tests per box
- Measurement Time: Approx. 3 min (10 strokes) to approx. 6 min (20 strokes) under standard conditions.
- Ambient Conditions: Temperature approx. 15-30 °C; Humidity: max ~20 mg H₂O per litre for accurate results.
- Colour Change / Reaction Principle: The reagent changes colour (grey-blue to white) in presence of SO₂; reaction: SO₂ + I₂ + 2 H₂O → H₂SO₄ + 2 HI.
- Accuracy / Standard Deviation: ±10–15 % under specified conditions.
Usage & Application Notes
-
Use this tube with a compatible pump, e.g., the Dräger Accuro manual pump, to draw a defined air volume through the tube.
-
Break off the tip of the ampoule, insert it into the pump, draw the specified number of strokes (10 or 20 depending on scale), then read off the scale where the colour change stops.
-
The tube is suitable for spot-measurements of SO₂ in workplaces, industrial hygiene (e.g., combustion plants, sulfur processing), leak detection, confined-space entry checks and other environments where SO₂ may present.
-
Because the measuring range goes from low ppm (0.5) up to ~25 ppm, it is useful both for relatively low-level monitoring and higher exposure checks.
-
Ensure that ambient temperature and humidity are within recommended conditions to maintain accuracy. Deviations may shift results.
-
Be aware of cross-sensitivities: For example the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) may interfere (measurement not possible in presence of H₂S). Also other gases such as nitrogen dioxide may shorten the reading.
